In Saturday’s very hot weather, Hamilton Clay Target Club held its monthly competition with over 30 shooters braving the heat and travelling from Colac, Sebastapol, Warrnambool and local clubs.
Two events were contested over 50 targets in a warm up for the National Titles in Wagga at the end of the month. Hamilton will be sending a team of shooters including Roger Duthie who has just come back from New Zealand as part of the successful Australian team which defeated the New Zealanders on their home soil. They were competing for the Glen Cup with Australia retaining the Cup for a further 12 months.
First event Saturday was a pointscore over 50 targets giving a possible 150 points. No shooter could achieve this but winners were;- C Grade- 1st was junior Ben Wines from Warrnambool with a score of 143/150 from runner-up Russell Edwards of Hamilton on 132/150. B grade saw Murray Sutherland of Hamilton win on 147/150 from Wayne Black of Colac on 145/150. A grade saw Trevor Pevitt of Tyrendarra take the winner’s prize on 141/150 from Jeremy Hardcastle from Port Arlington with a score of 140/150. AA grtade was won by Hamilton’s Peter Cleggett on a score of 148/150 from Murray Gruar also of Hamilton Club and a score of 143/150. Cleggett having shot all targets but using his second barrel only twice was the Overall Championship Sash winner.
Second event was a double barrel 50 target comp. After the 50 targets were shot Cleggett AA grade, Roger Duthie AA grade both of Hamilton Trevor Pevitt promoted to AA grade for his win in the previous event and Gerard Hose of Noorat AA grade and Lauren Duthie of Hamilton in A grade, who was shooting the first time from a 5 month break, all had scored the possible 50/50 score. In the shoot-off Pevitt was first to miss and the other 5 shooters all shot another 26 targets before Lauren Duthie had a miss followed shortly after by Dad, Roger which left Cleggett and Hose to fight out for the overall Winner’s Sash and Title. Cleggett outlasted hose scoring 88/88 to take the title. Lauren Duthie won A grade on a score of 76/77 from Steve Collins of Hamilton on 48/50. Hamilton’s Sam Cutler and Swan Hill visitor, Mike Gough went head to head in the B grade with Cuttler outlasting to win the grade on a score of 67/69 to Gough 66/69. C grade saw Russell Edwards on 48/50 reverse the placings from the first event to take the grade from Ben Wines on 45/50.
Next Sunday the Club will be hosting a 5 stand sporting shooting event commencing at 11am for district shooters.
